20-year old from Rotterdam emerges victorious at Konami Digital Entertainment GmbH’s international event in Leipzig, Germany

A weekend of Dueling ended in triumph for Stephan Sluis last Sunday, when he was crowned Yu-Gi-Oh! Championship Series (YCS) Champion at Leipzig’s Globana Centre - but he was made to fight for his new title and the prizes that came with it.

After two days and a total of 16 rounds, he came out ahead of a field of more than 1100 competitors from a dozen countries, and faced 21-year old Fabian Renner from Ludwigsburg in the final match of the event.

Sluis piloted his version of the Dino Rabbit Deck successfully to an impressive 14:2 record, but Renner had racked up just as great an overall result with his Inzektors deck over the course of the weekend, and proved to be a skilful and tough opponent.
The Championship’s final Duel ended when Sluis played Jurrac Guayba for the winning move and claimed the title for the second time after his win in Paris last April, along with a prize package containing a Notebook PC, an exclusive YCS Prize Card and Game Mat, an invitation to the 2012 European Championship and much more.

Duelists and attendees who did not play in the main tournament were invited to try their skills in different Public Events, competing for oversized Yu-Gi-Oh! cards, exclusive gamemats and other prizes. A special treat awaits 15-year-old Myron Schmelz, who won the YCS Anniversary Trial on Sunday and received a paid trip to the anniversary YCS event in Long Beach, California this March.

With YCS Leipzig in the books, the 2012 Premier event season will continue with the next YCS stop in Toulouse, France, across the weekend of April 14th-15th.
