BASIC INFORMATION

Q: What are World Qualifying Points?

A: World Qualifying Points are a way to earn an invite to the Yu-Gi-Oh! World Championship 2024. Duelists who earn World Championship Qualifier (WCQ) invites throughout the course of the 2023-2024 Organized Play Season, and accurately and legibly complete their WCQ Invite Forms, will also earn “World Qualifying Points” which award additional invites to the Yu-Gi-Oh! World Championship 2024 through a World Qualifying Points Playoff.

World Qualifying Points invites will be awarded to a specific number of Duelists in different territories who have earned enough World Qualifying Points in the 2023-2024 Season to compete in the World Qualifying Points Playoff.

Q: What is the World Qualifying Points Playoff?

A: Top performing Duelists during the 2023-2024 Season will be invited to a Playoff on the Friday of the WCQ held in their territory, to earn an invite to the Yu-Gi-Oh! World Championship 2024. The World Qualifying Points Playoff is a Single-Elimination, Advanced Constructed tournament. The number of Duelists competing in the Playoff will depend on the number of Duelists in their territory. See the charts below for the breakdown.

Please note that each invite to the Playoff will be given to that number of eligible Duelists who are present at that respective WCQ.

ExamplesIn North America, the top 16 World Qualifying Points Duelists from the 2023-2024 Season that are present at the North America World Championship Qualifier at the time of the World Qualifying Points Playoff, will be eligible for the Playoff. If one of the Top 16 Ranked Duelists is not present, the Playoff spot will be awarded to the 17th ranked Duelist from that particular Season, and so on.

Q: How many Duelists from each territory will receive an invite to the Yu-Gi-Oh! World Championship 2024 via the World Qualifying Points Playoff?

A: The number of invites to the Yu-Gi-Oh! World Championship 2024 awarded to each territory are listed below.

Q: Is North America treated as one territory, or will points be awarded separately for Canada and the United States?

A: World Qualifying Points will be combined for both Canada and the United States; North America will be treated as one territory.

Q: Is Latin America treated as one territory, or will points be awarded separately for Central and South America?

A: World Qualifying Points will be awarded separately for Central and South America.

Q: Do I win anything for competing in the Playoff?

A: Yes! All participants in the Playoff will receive:

  • VIP Status in the WCQ (2-round BYE, assigned seating), regardless of their final record in the Playoff.
  • A Super Rare copy of the YCS Prize card for that Season.

Participants who did not earn one of the invites to the World Championship via the Playoff can still play in the WCQ to earn an invite via the WCQ.

The winners of the Playoffs can also compete in the WCQ for additional prizing. If a World Qualifying Point Playoff winner participates in the WCQ and ranks high enough in the WCQ to earn an invite to the Yu-Gi-Oh! World Championship 2024, the invite will automatically pass down to the next eligible Duelist in the WCQ.

Q: How and where can I earn World Qualifying Points?

A: You can earn World Qualifying Points at any event that awards an invite to the World Championship Qualifier, such as Regional Qualifiers, Dragon Duels, OTS Championships, Nationals in Latin America, and the Yu-Gi-Oh! Championship Series.

World Qualifying Points are awarded for both in-person and Remote Duel events for the 2023-2024 Organized Play season. The total number of invites awarded at an event will determine how many World Qualifying Points can be earned. For example, at a Regional Qualifier that awards 32 WCQ invites, the Duelist who comes in 1st place will earn 32 points, the 2nd place Duelist will earn 31 points, and so on, down to the 32nd place Duelist who will earn 1 point.

In addition, every Duelist that makes the Top Cut at a YCS will also earn an additional 32 World Qualifying Points. These points will be awarded to each Duelist that makes the Top Cut after that event’s final standings. 

For example, if a YCS awards 32 invites to the WCQ, World Qualifier Points will be earned as follows:

If you would like to know how many points you can earn at your event, substitute the number of invites for the total above, and follow the same pattern.
To be eligible to earn World Qualifying Points, a Duelist must accurately and legibly complete their WCQ Invite Form at the time they earn their WCQ invite. Failure to complete a WCQ Invite Form on site may result in points not being awarded for that event. Note that filling out WCQ Invite Forms to earn World Qualifying Points only applies to events in the Americas.

Q: Do 16-Duelist Regional Qualifier Public Events also award World Qualifying Points?

A: Yes, any event which awards a WCQ invite will award World Qualifying Points.
Public Event Regionals award one (1) WCQ invite, so they will award one (1) World Qualifying Point to the Duelist who wins the Regional.

Q: Do Last Chance Qualifiers (LCQs) award World Qualifying Points?

A: No. Even though LCQs award invites, these are scheduled to occur on the same day as the World Qualifying Points Playoffs, so any invites earned will not impact the Playoff.

Q: How often will the World Qualifying Points list be updated?

A: KDE-US will update the World Qualifying Points list periodically prior to each territory’s WCQ. Please check https://www.yugioh-card.com/en/events/wqp/ for instructions to view the latest update.

Events will usually take some time to be uploaded into the system and the paperwork processed, so if your point total does not reflect your up-to-the-moment Organized Play history, don’t panic.  It will be updated!

Q: What should I do if I think I have earned World Qualifying Points that haven’t been credited?

A: Please check the WCQ invite page through KCGN. You can find instructions for accessing the WCQ Invite list and World Qualifying Points List here: https://www.yugioh-card.com/en/events/rankings/wcq-invite-lists/.

Q: What is the cutoff for earning World Qualifying Points?

A: For North America, the last day World Qualifying Points can be earned will be determined by the last event awarding invites to the NAWCQ.

For Latin America, the last day to earn World Qualifying Points will be the date of the WCQ – National in your country of residence. If you live in a country that does not have a WCQ – National event, the last day to earn World Qualifying Points will be the date of the last WCQ – National of the season in the territory where your country of residence is located, whether that is Central or South America. Any events past the cutoff date for your country will not award World Qualifying Points to the Points Playoff at the Central America or South America WCQ.

The World Qualifying Points invite winner(s) for each territory will be determined after the Playoff for their territory has been completed.

Q: If a Duelist earns an invite to the Yu-Gi-Oh! World Championship 2024 via the World Qualifying Points Playoff and is unable to attend, will that invite pass down to the next eligible Duelist?

A: Each World Championship competitor will be given a pre-determined amount of time to attain all necessary travel documents to attend the World Championship. If within this timeframe a competitor discovers that he/she is unable to attend, then the invite will pass down.  If you are not able to attend for any reason, please reach out to us-opsupport@kde-us.com as soon as possible, and KDE-US will reach out and make arrangements with the next eligible Duelist.

Q: What happens if Duelists are tied for the most World Qualifying Points to compete in the Playoff?

A: If there is a tie amongst Duelists for an invitation to the World Qualifying Points Playoff, the Duelists who are tied will compete in a tie-breaker match earlier in the day, to determine who advances to the Playoff.

Q: If a Dragon Duelist earns enough World Qualifying Points via Regionals and YCS, can they participate in the World Qualifying Points Playoff?  

A: Yes. If a Dragon Duelist (born in 2010 or later) earns the required number of points in their territory, they will be eligible to compete in the World Qualifying Points Playoff if they opt to play in the WCQ instead of the Dragon Duel Championship.  If they earn an invite to the World Championship, the Dragon Duelist will play in the Yu-Gi-Oh! World Championship 2024.

Q: What are the eligibility requirements to represent a territory via World Qualifying Points?
A: Duelists must be legal residents of the territory they wish to represent and provide valid proof of residency. The territory that the Duelist will be listed under will coincide with the information the Duelist provides via each WCQ Invite Form that is submitted. If a Duelist participates in one of the World Championship Qualifiers, then the Duelist will only be eligible to represent the territory where the WCQ was held.

Under extreme circumstances (Duelist changes residency as a result of school or family, etc.), a Duelist may request that their invite (and World Qualifying Points) be transferred to the territory that they will have residency in during the WCQ. This transfer will have the following requirements:

  • The Duelist must provide proof of residency change.
    • Please note that this is for actual residency changes and not for Duelists that may have multiple residencies in multiple territories.
  • The request must be received by the office of KDE from which the WCQ invite was earned no later than May 31, 2024. Once the request is processed, a KDE-US Representative will contact you with the status of your request.
    • Please note that a KDE-US Representative will contact the Duelist once the transfer is complete or if they need additional information from the Duelist.
    • The deadline to submit all transfer requests is May 31, 2024.

Q: Can a Duelist with dual residency for countries in different territories count their World Qualifying Points towards either territory?

A: Duelists with dual residency (both residencies must be in North and Latin American locations) may choose which territory they wish to represent by completing the appropriate information via the first WCQ Invite Form they complete at the time they earn their first WCQ invite. Once they have provided a location via their first WCQ invite form, that location cannot be changed. All Duelists are required to provide valid proof of residency to participate at the WCQ and to be selected to represent a territory via the World Qualifying Points.

Q: If a Duelist travels outside of their own territory (the Americas vs Europe), are they still eligible to earn a WCQ invite and World Qualifying Points?

A: No. Invites awarded in North America and Latin America are only valid for WCQs within those territories. Duelists from outside these territories, such as Europe, are not eligible to earn invites within the Americas, therefore no World Qualifying Points are awarded to these Duelists.

Note that filling out WCQ Invite Forms to earn World Qualifying Points only applies to events in the Americas.

Q: Can World Qualifying Points be purchased?

A: No, World Qualifying Points can only be acquired by earning invites to the 2024 WCQ.

Q: Can I transfer my World Qualifying Points to a friend or family member?

A: No, World Qualifying Points are non-transferable.

Q: Can I redeem World Qualifying Points for any other kind of prizing?

A: No, World Qualifying Points will only count towards earning an invite to play in the World Qualifying Points Playoff at their respective WCQ.

Q: Will unused World Qualifying Points carry over to the 2024-2025 Season?

A: No, all World Qualifying Points earned in the 2023-2024 Season can only be used towards earning an invite to play in the World Qualifying Points Playoff at their respective WCQ.

Q: Will Suspended Duelists lose their World Qualifying Points?

A: Suspended Duelists will not lose their World Qualifying Points but their information will not be listed on the leaderboard if they are suspended from Organized Play. However, Duelists that are currently suspended when the World Qualifying Points Playoff occurs will not be allowed to participate. Any World Qualifying Points earned would not carry over to the next Organized Play Season.
